The Sun and the Moon

| Personal Project

Two different entities, orbiting around each other

There is always a visual language behind each picture. The deeper the passions following the story, the more poetic the narrative becomes. Desire is one of those emotions with the strong will to be heard from afar. But desire is sometimes shy, it starts with the tautness of a not ready to be seen face, until the acceptance of the real intimacy gives us the whole spectrum of its power. Only then the truthfulness of the moment emerges without any veil. The progression of guarding oneself to the full frontal, almost daring eye contact goes beyond the nudity of the skin transcending to the bareness of the soul. The quest for the intimacy, delivers the ability to glance, even for a fleeting moment, the complexities of each other’s souls.

As a photographer, I usually aim to become one with the object of my photographs. I claim deed for what I have captured, bringing out the emotional component of the moment. In this series, this is exceptionally true. The images, permeate tension in human relations, increasingly showing a more comfortable frame and a more reflective of the aesthetic sensibility of the scene. In a way, the photographer and its object embark in a self-discovery journey to expose the secret union of the sun and the moon. Two different entities, orbiting around each the other; one providing light to the other, although always keeping hidden its dark side. I departed from the mere representation of facts by means of artistic and conceptual choices, and the undeniable incorporation of the emotional component. I sustained the tension by the use of light, which made the visual dialogue direct, within a frame which omits any obliterations and maintains the viewer's attention to the essential. Unfortunately, the daring rebellious act, gave way to the clashing of the two dissimilar worlds, and the end became inevitable. An overload of sensations led me to purposefully scrape the negatives. Thus, the scratches and big dusty spots of the images.
