Standing too close to a camera’s lens the individual is abstracted from its surroundings, briefly providing a deceptive sense of power — in the same way that a “selfie” does.  In such positioning, awareness of one’s true self dimension, in contrast to the universe, becomes clouded.  Distancing corrects for such exaggerations, rendering truer realities.  Great Delusions plays that edge, incorporating vantage points to reveal and probe cultural myths of our human scale.

Despite what our social media feeds preach, the reality is that we are all small figures in a rather large landscape.  The images in Great Delusions invite viewers to drop back into that “being”, offering new perspectives and an opportunity to remember the complexity and importance of our interconnectedness.
